Former Chief Minister and Member of Parliament Basavaraj Bommai said that individuals who continue to engage in sports throughout their lives remain physically and mentally healthy. The sporting spirit helps people face both happiness and hardships with equal composure.
Speaking after inaugurating the MP Sports Festival 2025-26 organised at the college grounds of Janata Education Society in Hanagal town of Haveri district, he said it is very important to incorporate sports into one’s life. He expressed happiness that participants actively engaged in various sporting events throughout the day.
He remarked that sports are closely connected to life and said playing only to avoid defeat is a defensive approach, whereas playing with the determination to win is an aggressive and positive approach. Success in life is achieved when individuals adopt a winning mindset supported by positivity, hard work, and clear goals. The sports help inculcate discipline and strong character among individuals.
Bommai said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given significant importance to sports by launching initiatives such as Fit India, Khelo India, and Jeeto India during Olympic events. Bommai noted that due to these initiatives, India won more medals than ever before at the Tokyo Olympics. He also highlighted that Indian athletes secured record medals in the Paralympics.
He said the MP Sports Festival has successfully generated sporting spirit across the district and expressed confidence that the event would be organised on a larger scale with wider participation next year.
